What are varicose veins?
Varicose veins are caused by chronic venous insufficiency, which means that the veins are struggling to properly fulfil their function of transporting blood to the heart. The heart provides arteries with the pressure required to pump blood to all organs and all cells in the body, but this pressure is not enough on its own to return the blood to the heart through our veins. This is why veins have various anatomical features that allow them to transport blood to the heart.
In particular, they have a series of valves: when the veins contract or are subjected to the action of surrounding muscles, the valves open in one direction, forcing the blood to circulate in the direction of the heart. When they close, they prevent blood from flowing in the opposite direction. If these valves are weakened, blood cannot circulate as effectively and tends to stagnate or even descend down limbs. This is what is known as chronic venous insufficiency. Under the effect of gravity, blood accumulates in the veins and dilates them, especially those in lower limbs. These dilated veins are called varicose veins.
Venous tissue has elasticity and tone, which allows it to contract and ensure blood circulation. Adequate blood pressure is maintained as vein walls are impermeable. Good blood circulation also depends on muscle tone in the legs and other parts of the body, especially those further away from the heart. Weakness in one or more of these can cause or aggravate venous insufficiency.
In addition to legs, varicose veins can also appear in the crotch (vulvar varicose veins or varicoceles) and anus (hemorrhoids). Varicose veins are permanent. They cannot be healed, only removed. But it is possible to relieve the symptoms associated with them and prevent the formation of new varicose veins and related problems. This is what Annedda VARICOSE VEINS® does.
The ingredients for protecting veins
The ingredients for protecting veins
Annedda VARICOSE VEINS® contains horse chestnut. The seed produced by this tree contains escin, a substance that effectively relieves symptoms associated with venous insufficiency (heaviness, swelling and leg pain). Its effects compare favourably to conventional medication for people suffering from this condition, especially compression stockings, which are regularly prescribed to patients.
At least three systematic reviews of clinical trials with horse chestnut among patients suffering from venous insufficiency have confirmed its effectiveness for the treatment of this condition.
White pine bark
Annedda VARICOSE VEINS® also contains our exclusive white pine bark extract, which has proven to be effective in several clinical trials in relieving symptoms associated with venous insufficiency.
Thanks to its exceptional antioxidant power, anti-inflammatory properties, and favourable action on the connective tissues that form the internal walls of blood vessels, pine bark extract helps preserve vein integrity, maintain their elasticity and tone, and ensure proper functioning of the valves responsible for allowing blood to flow to the heart. This is the Annedda® flagship extract, an exceptional antioxidant and the best in the world in its category.
Other antioxidants
Annedda VARICOSE VEINS® also contains vitamin C, as well as blueberry and rosehip extracts—three other antioxidants that boost the effects of the other main ingredients.
It is this formula within Annedda VARICOSE VEINS® that helps relieve symptoms associated with venous insufficiency and slows the progression of the disease, thus preventing formation of new varicose veins, hemorrhoids, vulval varicosities and varicoceles.
